Hair and Scalp Science for Trichology
What you will learn
Course details: At our introductory level, you will gain an appreciation of ‘trichology’ as the science of hair growth and scalp health, throughout five units of study. Underpinning this, is the study of nutritional health and anatomy and physiology that serve as an introduction to the internal biological processes of the body, whilst the study of cosmetic science and how to examine the evidence and claims of the therapies available in this sector will enhance your understanding of the external processes that can affect the hair and scalp. You will be able to recognise a range of different hair loss and scalp conditions and the different professions available for referral including the types of psychological support available to those affected.
An optional unit is available to revise your academic study skills if required to ensure your successful study at this level.
Entry requirements: Evidence of study at Level 3 in science or health related subjects, beauty or hairdressing.
Assessment: A combination of written assignments, case studies, online quizzes and activities will be used to assess competence.
Attendance: Distance learning, with online delivery. A personal tutor will be assigned to you.
Duration: 6 months of study at a commitment of 10 hours per week.

Further study: Completion of this qualification will enhance your current profession through an increased depth of knowledge relating to the hair and scalp**, or will allow for entry to our education pathway to become a Clinical Trichologist, through completion of higher levels of academic study and training in the practical skills required.

**Please note that study at this level does not qualify you to become a practicing trichologist, and is intended as a theoretical foundation to underpin further study.
